This is the softneck variety which won the 1990 garlic tasting test at Rodale Kitchens. Certified Organic. Discovered on the Colville Indian Reservation, it is one of the country's oldest varieties.The pink white wrapper holds creamy white cloves with plenty of heat and more flavor. Certified organic.

1709 Siberian - whole bulbs, 1/2 lb bag, $10.95
This marbled purple skin variety probably originated in Siberia....the name sorta' gives that away. It is perhaps the most beuatiful of all our bulbs. The huge purple striped wrappers contain very large cloves with dark brown skins. The creamy white cloves have a hot, spicy flavor that would keep anyone happy through an entire Siberian winter. Certified organic.

1771 Georgia Crystal - whole bulbs, 1/2 lb bag, $9.95
A pretty porcelain variety that can produces large bulbs but only with a half dozen or so large cloves. The wrapper is clean, firm and white in color. The flavor is relatively mild, even when eaten raw. A good storing bulb for a hardneck. Certified organic

A porcelain hardneck that can get very, very big if it likes your soil. The plants are very tall, and the unfurled scapes can head towards five feet at times. The big bulb has six to eight giant, easy-to-peel cloves and has spiced up many a Cossack's dinner on the windy steppes. Certified Organic.
