2008 HARDNECK/ ROCAMBOLE GARLICS                Shopping Cart

This is where the real flavor is, say garlic aficionados. Since hardnecks have many fewer cloves, the cloves are larger and easier to peel. The tall scapes, when cut, make a great stir fry vegetable and also a stunning floral piece. Planted bulbs can yield 5-8 times their weight in harvest. A half pound will provide cloves for between 15-20 plants (plant the larger cloves, eat the smaller ones!). See How to Grow Garlic for planting details, or our video, A Garlic Gardener's Guide. TheGarlicStore.com at 5313 Mail Creek Lane is a Certifed Organic Processor/Handler by the Colorado Department of Agriculture. All varieties are certified organic.

4418 Brown Tempest - whole bulbs, 1/2 lb bag, $10.95 AO
A hardneck with mottled purple wrapper. The brown-skinned cloves have some real punch. If eaten raw, the cloves have a fiery flavor, but that mellows to a pleasing aftertaste. A little goes a long way. A bulb produces about a half dozen large cloves. Stores longer than many hardnecks.Certified organic.
